Fall 2022 in SW Colorado

Day 3

The morning started off well as if the day would be full of accomplishments. Tho, be careful when drawing connections via things that are totally unrelated.

Peering down Ophir Pass as the sun slowly rises behind me.

This day was the first day that I ever failed to finish a hike. Captain Colorado and I got about 9/10 the way up the backside into Columbine Lake before turning back. The climb got too steep. Wasn't really concerned with the going up. It was the going down with 50lb of gear that worried me.

We hiked/slid back down and finished taking Ophir Pass back into Ophir and Telluride. The hike up and down took quite a large chunk out of the day. We stopped in Telluride to have lunch, tacos of course. Very good. I'll have to get the name of the place from Jamie as I've forgotten it already; slept since then. Edit: It is Uno Dos Tres Tacos + Tequila and I definitely recommend the place!

We parted ways in Montrose. I had to stop to resupply. After, I headed back to CB. I was hoping to shoot Paradise Lake/Valley for sunset. I got there just at sunset and managed a quick image, but the sun and clouds conspired against me.

After lunch, The Good Captain and I parted ways. I decided I’d head back towards Crested Butte in the hopes that the colors were closer to peak than my first visit.

The evening found me searching for a campsite as well as a decent composition for the morning. I managed to find both, tho I barely beat the light as the sun was sinking fast.

I didn’t get a lot of time to scope out compositions. Here, I basically shot what was available and then began considering how I’d shoot it in the morning.
