Please note that there are two trips to the sanctuary on Nov. 2nd. One leaves Colorado Springs at 6 a.m. and the other leaves at 11 a.m. Please do not RSVP for both because these events tend to fill fast, and we want to give as many members as possible the chance to participate. If you cannot join us on this date, you can always make arrangements for a private tour. Reserve your spot below.
More Details
Mark Johnson of the Rocky Mountain Wildlife Foundation has been kind enough to host an excellent photographic opportunity for us. We will travel to Guffey to photograph the wolves and wolf/dog hybrids he cares for at his sanctuary.
This is a fundraising event to help the sanctuary. All of the money collected, minus the PayPal fees will be donated directly to RMWF. If you would like to donate more than $20 you may do so on PayPal when you RSVP, on the RMWF website (www.rmwf.org) or in person.
We will meet at Safeway at 6 a.m. to carpool to Guffey where we will gather at the Freshwater* restaurant for breakfast and a presentation by Mark at 7:30 a.m. Breakfast is available for purchase. If you plan to have breakfast, please answer the question regarding that when you RSVP so I can give the Freshwater a head count.
*Those of you who have visited RMWF with us in previous years know that we used to meet at the Bull Moose. The Bull Moose is closed, so we are meeting at the Freshwater, which is just down the street at 52 S. 8th Street.
The breakfast menu is TBD.
After the presentation, Mark and his staff will guide us through the enclosures on the property that house the animals.
It is recommended that you bring both a wide-angle lens and a telephoto lens, however, as an extra bonus, Marc Morris, our regional Tamron rep will be joining us with lenses to lend for free.
There are no restrictions on how you can use the photographs that you take or the focal length of the lenses you use.
At this time of year, the wolves will be sporting their new winter coats and the lighting will be ideal for photography.
You can expect to interact with the animals. If you are allergic to dogs, interacting with the hybrids may be a concern, but interacting with the wolves should not cause any problems.
Wear clothing that you do not mind getting dirty or torn and do not wear open-toed shoes.
To learn more about the sanctuary, visit Mark's site here: rmwf.org (http://www.rmwf.org/). You will find a map on the site to use if you chose not to carpool with us from Colorado Springs.
If you plan to bring a guest or family member, please include them in your RSVP.
