Ever wanted to shoot sunrise from the top of the Manitou Incline or merely just wanted to hike up it?
I’ll be heading up early on the morning of 21 September in the hopes of shooting a sunrise. The hike is a sure bet. The sunrise image is pending weather and stamina… :-)
I am allotting 1.5 hours to climb the incline. This will likely be too much time for some and probably just enough for others.

4:45 AM - Meet-Up
4:55 AM - Carpool to Barr Trail Parking Lot
5:00 AM - Begin Ascent
6:49 AM - Sunrise
10:00 AM - Brunch at Mo's
Note: I do not plan on deviating from this schedule. With that being said, if you end up having to be a bit late, you may have to hike up on your own, but don’t worry; you’re never really alone on the Incline. I look forward to seeing you at the top…!
Where To Meet
We will meet in the Free Parking Lot in Manitou and carpool to the Barr Trail Parking Lot. We can split the difference on the $10 parking fee/car. From there, we will walk over to the Incline’s starting point and begin our ascent.
What To Bring
Headlamp - It’ll be dark when we first get started.
Water - You know yourself better than I do. This is an intense climb to say the least. Hydrate well before, during, and after the event.
Snacks - Bring something to munch on for both the breaks that you are sure to take along the way up and for while you are at the top. Don’t forget, the hike down the Barr trail is easily an hour.
Jacket - You are sure to work up a sweat while climbing the incline. Once at the top, you are likely to catch a chill even if the morning isn’t that cold, especially if you are merely standing around waiting on the sun to rise.
Advice - Eat a decent meal the night before. I recommend something high in carbs, such as pasta. Also, if you do not sleep well the night before, no need to worry; you will surely sleep good the night after. ;-)
