Day 1: Loneliest HWY
Day 1
The morning started off great! I’d been to this location in the past and not been able to fly due to winds and my frozen fingers. Not this morning tho! This morning was perfect; zero winds! :-) Can you find the Mars Desert Research Station in the above image?
Typically, my Day 1 of a road trip doesn’t consist of much driving. That is a bit different when my overall goal is multiple days away. I had to cover a bit of ground and a lot of it looked exactly like the above image, bland. This happens to be Highway 50 (the Loneliest Highway) running through Nevada.
I stopped short of entering Yosemite National Park as I did not have a park reservation nor did I have a campsite reserved. After a nice walk along Mono Lake and dinner with this little fella, I tucked myself away a bit and got some sleep. The morning would come early as I had a two-hour drive ahead of me, still needed to do a slight bit of scouting, and the sun rose about 0530 in the morning. This called for an 0230 wake-up alarm…! Eeek!
